Mountain Goats, John Darnielle, Jon Wurster, Peter Hughes
What is a songwriter supposed to write about when he’s facing the pressure to live up to the titles of “America’s best non-hip-hop lyricist” by the New Yorker and “Indie Rock’s Greatest Lyricist” by Spin? Well, of course “about saddling up your demons and learning to ride them like devil horses with big leathery wings.” Or at least that’s what Mountain Goats‘ John Darnielle said of Transcendental Youth and its first single, “Cry For Judas.” The album isn’t out until October 2, but today the band released the single as a free download.
