Digable Planets, the trio of Ishmael “Butterfly” Butler, Mary Ann “Ladybug Mecca” Vieira and Craig “Doodlebug” Irving, is slated to play some upcoming shows, including one at New York City’s Brooklyn Bowl on December 20 and another at L.A.’s Conga Room on February 3. Details are sketchy, with some suggesting the hip-hop group is also planning a new album for 2012 and others questioning the legitimacy of that claim, but as far as we can tell, at least the Brooklyn Bowl show is a go. Digable Planets will be joined by F. Stokes and Canadian rap group U.G.O. Crew at that show.
According to the Bronx Times, Digable Planets and U.G.O. will split a record made of tracks from the 2010 Cool Like That Tour slated for release January 31. The record will include tracks from both groups, including Planets classics like “Nickel Bag,” “Cool Like That” and “Where I’m From.”
No details yet on the supposed new album or what other venues or dates you can expect to see Digable Planets hitting. The jazz-rap fusion trio hasn’t performed in its original lineup since 2005, but in the meantime they’ve kept busy with other projects, like Butterfly’s Shabazz Palaces.
