A.J. Davila, bassist and co-yalper for Puerto Rican garage-party masters Davila 666, has announced the imminent release of his first solo record, Terror/Amor, on February 18, via Nacional Records. From the sounds of the track below, “2333,” it looks to be a more epic, horns-flecked take on Davila 666’s trash-pop. Special guests on the rec include Cole Alexander (Black Lips), Alex Anwandter, Sergio Rotman (Los Fabulosos Cadillacs), Juan Cirerol and Fofe Abreu (Circo).
Another Davila 666 alum, guitarist Giancarlo Cervoni, has been fronting his sizzling punk act, Las Ardillas, for a couple of years now, having released one of the best r’n’r LPs of 2011, not to mention releasing gallons of spilled beers on stages everywhere. Expect more recordings from them in 2014 too.
As far as Davila 666, despite their rising stature in the trash-rock world around about 2010, the band disolved in 2012, though not many “official” break-up announcements have been floated out there, so who knows. Official band break-ups are so 20th century anyway.
