Das Racist is one of the most prominent names in “indie rap” (or whatever you want to call it)—but the group hasn’t actually released an album yet. Yep, last year’s Shut Up, Dude and Sit Down, Man were mixtapes, not albums, even though they appeared on a bunch of year-end lists, got a huge amount of buzz and generally made everyone aware of how clever Himanshu Suri and Victor Vazquez (and hype-man-but-not Dapwell) were. Which is funny considering the pair wrote a song about being at a Pizza Hut, and a Taco Bell, and a combination etc.—you know the song (and if you don’t, well, you really aren’t our target demographic, but please keep reading anyway because we love you very much). So in fact, out of all of the music Das Racist has ever released, it’s all been free.

Das Racist parlayed that fame by signing with … its own label, Suri’s Greedhead Music. And on September 13, Greedhead will release Relax, the debut LP of Das Racist. Featuring hip-hop upstarts like Diplo, Detroit’s Danny Brown and underground rap legend El-P, as well as indie stalwarts Anand Wilder of Yeasayer and Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend, Relax will herald another tour, as well as the accompanying press release’s prediction that Relax is “almost exactly like Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy in every conceivable way.” Maybe you should buy it. You should probably buy it.
