Each week the CMJ staff sifts through thousands of radio playlists that contribute to the weekly CMJ charts. In the Chart Discovery column, we highlight exciting artists, albums and songs brought to our attention by the charts of our reporting panel of college and non-commercial radio stations. This round’s picks come via KCSB in Santa Barbara, CA, KZSU in Stanford, CA, and KVSC in St. Cloud, MN.

Psymun on KVSC

Minneapolis producer Psymun’s groovy experi-hip-hop lands his guest-filled EP, Pink Label, at No. 5 on nearby St. Cloud station KVSC.

Pleistocene on KZSU

Some fuzzy, upbeat gaze-rock from Rochester, NY, lands Pleistocene’s February release, Ontario Girls, at No. 21 all the way over in Silicon Valley. The trio’s near a capella work is completely different, but equally stunning.

Exmag on KCSB

Say “Ohhh yeaaaah,” but lower your voice about four registers, get a little Blackstreet beat going and you completely understand why Brooklyn five-piece Exmag’s December release, Proportions, has landed at No. 27 on KCSB.
