Each week the CMJ staff sifts through thousands of radio playlists that contribute to the weekly CMJ charts. In the Chart Discovery column, we highlight exciting artists, albums and songs brought to our attention by the charts of our reporting panel of college and non-commercial radio stations. This round’s picks come via WUMD in North Dartmouth, MA, KTUH in Honolulu, HI, and CKUW in Manitoba, CA.
Coming right out of a thriving Providence rock scene, Jets Can’t Land sound like they hung out with Deer Tick and co. in sweaty bars, especially with songs like “Wasted.”
Sometimes you need a palette cleanser from your college radio favorites with some good jazz/funk music, and sometimes you need to go all the way to Hawaii to hear it. KTUH spun local band Good Foot on their playlists this week, and for good reason. Both refreshing and upbeat, this music is an exciting change of pace that inspires listeners to find more in the realm of soul, afro beat and funk.
Autumn Still on CKUW
Perfectly embodying the band name, Autumn Still is primed to be on your end of fall/early winter playlist. They’re reminiscent of the Smiths and other iconic mood rock bands. Don’t miss “Graduation” and “Lights Out Before The Dawn.”
