The New York indie-rock yelpers of Caveman were the toast of CMJ 2011, playing countless shows at venues across the city and eventually being dubbed “the best song band” of CMJ by NPR’s All Songs Considered. Well, the hard work and NPR-love paid off: The band recently signed to Fat Possum, home to a lot of the indie bands you’d probably rattle off on command (Band Of Horses, Spiritualized, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, the Walkmen, Wavves, Youth Lagoon, Yuck) and El-P. The band’s self-released debut, CoCo Beware, will now be available through the independent label.
Perhaps to celebrate their banner year, the band members will play a series of North American shows starting tonight in Toronto and ending on their home turf at New York’s Bowery Ballroom on January 20. After a short break, the band will head to Europe, then onward to SXSW, which the group will also conquer through brutal, Caveman strength and sheer jangly force.
