The unique pairing of Los Angeles psychedelic surf rock and Cambodian pop vocals that is Dengue Fever will make another appearance on the band’s upcoming album Cannibal Courtship, due to be released April 19 via Fantasy Records/Concord Music Group. Featuring 11 new tracks sung in both English and Khmer as well as backing vocals provided by the Living Sisters, it will be Dengue Fever’s fourth studio album. In a press release, bassist Senon Gaius Williams suggests that unlike the band’s previous albums—”sounding partly Cambodian and partly indie rock”—Cannibal Courtship has found an identity that resembles both aspects of the Dengue Fever’s sound with an equal presence throughout the record.

Along with the album announcement Dengue Fever has also posted a smooth new single, “Cement Slippers,” streaming below. If it suggests anything about the upcoming album it seems that the band is actually directed more towards surf rock and that its Cambodian pop influence may be left in the dust. Nevertheless, Dengue Fever on Cannibal Courtship‘s day-of-release will be kick off its west-coast spring tour at the Troubadour in the band’s Los Angeles hometown.
