The queen of New Orleans bounce, Big Freedia, has released a free EP of five songs titled Scion A/V Presents: Big Freedia (Scion A/V). The EP delivers more bounce music, the uptempo, bass-heavy rap sound that originated in Freedia’s home of New Orleans that has been going strong for 20 years.

All five tracks reflect the attitude of Freedia, whether it be “Almost Famous,” where she thanks her haters for getting her name out, or “Let It Go Nah,” which obviously encourages fans to do the same. Currently in the studio recording new material, the EP serves as a preview for what’s to come on Freedia’s third full-length album.

Having musical roots as far back as her high school days, when Freedia led the school’s choir as director, she’s now the poster child for the Big Easy’s emerging sub-genre. Her albums An Ha, Oh Yeah from 1999 and Queen Diva from 2003 found success in New Orlean’s mainstream, leading Freedia recently to develop a musical about her life. Titled Catch That Beat, the musical tells the story of how Freedia grew up in the third ward in the city of New Orleans. Previously remaining closer to home for performance, Freedia started touring around the country in 2009 with artists such as Spank Rock and Ninjasonik, and will accompany Javelin on its North American tour this spring.
