It’s a great day to be down with the funk. Last night in Boston, Berklee College Of Music awarded funk icon George Clinton an honorary doctor of music degree. That’s right: George Clinton, the mastermind of the Parliament-Funkadelic and collaborator with everyone from Dr. Dre to Outkast, is now Dr. Clinton. After the awards ceremony at the noted music college, the legend swapped his doctorate robes for a snazzy silver suit for a performance with other students of the college. Among the funky favorites included were “Testify,” “Give Up The Funk” and “One Nation Under A Groove.” Dr. Clinton was joined by the current members of his backing band, as well as longtime horn players Greg Thomas and Bennie Cowan, for the jubilant, sold-out show (or, perhaps, his first lecture?).
