Jazzman Ben Kono, the prolific saxophone player and woodwinds master, will release his debut solo album, Crossing, on February 20 via Nineteen-Eight Records. The highly regarded saxophonist also specializes in a variety of woodwinds such as oboe and clarinet and has been a fixture in New York’s jazz scene for the past eight years, performing notable venues around the city.

Throughout the last decade Kono’s experienced major life changes, exemplified in Crossing. Kono describes the death of his father, and birth of a daughter as prominent influences on the inception of on the record, which in turn affected the album’s choice of name. The record also relates to saxophonist’s heritage, as Kono wished to to create music to share with his Japanese relatives.
