Toronto-based group Austra will release its sophomore album, Olympia, on June 18 via Domino. In anticipation of the release, the follow-up to 2011’s Feel It Break, the Canadian sextet has premiered “Home,” the first cut off the album.
The song offers some deeply personal lyrics from singer Katie Stelmanis, who explains in a press release, “I was mad and upset, and the song just wrote itself.” Despite the heavy context, the song is driven by a dance-inducing piano, reminiscent of the Rapture’s “How Deep Is Your Love.” Discussing the influences behind the new album, Stelmanis says, “We are really into dense harmonies and big beautiful melodies, but I also love techno and dance music. I wanted to bring those elements together.”
Austra will also hit the road for a number of SXSW showcases followed by some European and U.S. dates in June. You can stream “Home” and check out Austra’s tour dates below. Look out for Olympia on June 18.
