New York downtown music venue Cake Shop is a great place to catch a new band, grab a drink and enjoy some cake. The LES staple has also been home to countless CMJ Marathon memories over the years, but it appears the venue has fallen on hard times due to “possibly bogus fines” and is looking for some financial help, specifically $10,000 by the end of tonight.
Brooklyn Vegan reports that the venue’s owner Andy Bodes has been reaching out to potential investors via e-mail. Bodes wries: “Calling all millionaires: cake shop needs a month-long returnable bridge loan, due to possibly bogus fines from last year, at their deadline this monday, or we face eviction. the amount we’re looking for is 10k, to pay off these fines once and for all. we’d need it in the next 72 hours. & reminder this is a short term loan. full explanation provided, with intere$t and perks, if this appeals to you, and you’d like to help us out & continue & grow. thanks. xo.”
So, if you’re a millionaire, contact Bodes. If not, go ahead and support this vital part of Manhattan’s live music scene by catching the show tonight, headlined by Hilly Eye, featuring ex-Titus Andronicus guitarist Amy Klein.
