Goofball psychedelic prince Ariel Pink took the stage at Irving Plaza last night dressed in white pleated trousers, a white blazer worn cape-like around his shoulders, and, in a nod to himself, a white Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti t-shirt. The band was touring in support of 2012’s Mature Themes.
Sharing the stage with Haunted Graffiti was Kirin J Callinan, with post-punk instrumentals and a voice like a washed-up Broadway star with a broken heart and a smoking habit. Also joining them was New Zealand duo Purple Pilgrims who played soft, chamber music-esque instrumentals, cut with heavy waves of feedback. Our photographer Emily Korn was there to catch all the sartorial and soundscape action.
