Update: Well, it turns out Andrew W.K.’s trip to Bahrain has been cancelled by the State Department. The musician and party ambassador has been uninvited and a spokesperson for the State Department is now calling the incident, “a mistake and not appropriate.” This is so not party.
When it’s time to party we will party hard…in Bahrain? Yes, you read that right. The U.S. Department Of State, in partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Manama, Bahrain, choose as its party ambassador the one and only Andrew W.K..
So, technically he’s not a “party ambassador,” but what W.K. will be doing is traveling to the Middle Eastern country of Bahrain next month to share his music and positive outlook with local elementary schools, the University Of Bahrain and music venues.
In a statement posted on his website, W.K. says: “This is a tremendous invitation. I’m very thankful to the Department Of State for giving me the opportunity to visit a place I’ve never been before. And I feel very privileged and humbled by the chance to represent the United States Of America and show the good people of Bahrain the power of positive partying. I can hardly wait for this adventure!”
Can you even imagine if everyone subscribed to W.K.’s positive partying ways? World peace! We’ve got to start somewhere.
