Australia is never lax coming up with angular, grimy, quitar-shard rock. If that’s your bag of glue, then this U.S. debut EP from Zeahorse will quench your nose. There are slight hints of those early ’90s totem poles: U.K. shoegaze and U.S. grunge, but there’s also a welcome clarity. The production never just slathers on easy coats of distortion all the time, leaving the bass to sometimes cut the song in two and the singer’s desperate pleas to squelch through, making this feel fresh as a 15-year-old pair of jeans right out the dryer.
Today, right now, you can stream their debut EP, Pools, exclusively here at CMJ before it drops officially next Tuesday, September, 2, via Dine Alone/HUB. The band is also slated to play CMJ Music Marathon, though the details are still to be hammered out. For now, check the sonic hammering, below, and their recent video for Pool below that even. And below that? Their most updated tour dates.
