When Cascada grips ‘n’ sips, AraabMUZIK happens. Combining elements of electro, drag, ambient and glitch into syrupy and slow-moving beats, AraabMUZIK brings a pop sensibility to dark music reminiscent of Clams Casino.

Taylor McFerrin[/vimeo]
Thundercat isn’t the only musician on Flying Lotus‘ Brainfeeder label to inherit highly musical genes; Taylor McFerrin, son of Bobby “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” McFerrin, has been crafting chilled-out psychedelic beats at least since the 2006 release of his debut EP, Broken Vibes. McFerrin mixes his own beat-boxed rhythms into the smooth melange of his glugged-out tracks, like a lullaby from deep space.
Taylor McFerrin plays at Le Poisson Rouge on Tuesday, October 18, as part of CMJ 2011.

Joker has been on a mission to bring bass-centric music from the U.K. to listeners around the world since he was a teenager. His own style, which he calls “purple,” smashes grime and industrial elements into a wall of sound and bass that walks the line between gritty club womp and chillstep bedroom beats.
Joker will be performing on Saturday, October 22, as part of CMJ 2011.

Matthewdavid’s “sound collage” style is a pastiche of rattling, jumbled and noisy rhythms; talk of his “textures” and the “layers” of his sound are more than appropriate. His is a style distinct to the L.A. beat scene—he has released recordings on Brainfeeder—sounding at once spaced out, psychedelic and a little ambient but perhaps not as gluggy as other Southern California producers.
Matthewdavid plays at the Knitting Factory on Thursday, October 20, as part of the Panache showcase.
