Immediately at the start of his latest album, Pigeon John shows off his in-your-face style, updating swing for the 21st century with “The Bomb.” The track is rollicking fun, filled with handclaps and “whoaoh”s alongside a chorus that feels alive and vibrant. Not just content to make upbeat party music, however, John experiments with diversity on the album. The highlight track, “Before We’re Gone” is a ballad that acts as a tribute to love lost and chasing the nights away. As the possible soundtrack to many a dawn after the night has been overtaken by woozy revelry, the album hits the mark, proving that this Pigeon can fly.
