It’s hard to say what time Chairlift actually performed at Santos Party House in New York on Saturday night. Not only was it technically late into the wee hours of Sunday morning, but it was also right around the time the east coast was rejiggering it’s clocks forward an extra hour. A performance surrounding this magical missing hour is fitting for an act like Chairlift, who have a weird dream-like aura surrounding their otherwise catchy electropop songs.
Chairlift found their way back to New York City last night as they continue to tour opening for Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti. Touring has seemingly taken a bit of wear on the trio as last night’s show at the Knitting Factory was a bit less energetic than usual. The club lights were turned down for the set, only darker greens, blues, and purples fell upon the band. The mix of dark and tired ultimately created a dreamy effect to fit perfectly with the band’s music. It probably would’ve been easy to fall asleep if not for the fact that Chairlift’s interesting 80’s pop sensibilities easily keep the eyes open and even start some feet moving.
Chairlift | Music Hall Of Williamsburg (After The Jump Fest) | June 21, 2008
Though Ponytail certainly brought it at the After The Jump Fest this weekend, Chairlift was the first band of the day inside that really seemed to pull a crowd in away from the stage on North Sixth Street. On the large stage at the Music Hall Of Williamsburg, Chairlift sounded epic. The only piece of news to come out of the event was that (if word on the street is to be believed) Chairlift’s album won’t be dropping until November this year.
Chairlift’s only scheduled show is at the Mercury Lounge in NYC on July 8.
One of the bands opening at Mixel Pixel’s record release show were Chairlift, a Brooklyn trio who have been making waves after opening up for MGMT on tour. Utilizing a mix of electronic and live drums, the group make dreamy indie pop. Though they have currently only release a 7″ of their song, Evident Utensil (which they performed the other night as though a record player to the wrong RPM…intentionally), the band will have a more proper release on Kanine Records later this year.
As they prep up their new album, Brooklyn band Chairlift also are playing quite a few shows in the month of April including last night at Glasslands. Rumors about a possible MGMT set shrouded the night, as the two bands have a tight connection, MGMT remixed Chairlift’s “Evident Utensil” single and they have few upcoming shows together starting this week (dates below).
Last night, Planetary Group and Stranded In Stereo debuted a new night at New York City’s Club Midway. The Red Romance, Apache Beat, Chairlift, and Peasant all played to kick off the inaugural event.
