M For Montreal, Day 2 | November 19, 2009
The second night of M For Montreal featured a half-dozen artists from across the country in the nearby Juste Pour Rire. It’s always interesting watching groups perform who realize someone in the room could create a career-defining opportunity for them if they can just make a connection. This didn’t phase the showcasing artists last night. The Luyas walked away as my personal favorite new band I’ve never heard of before this week and it was great to finally see You Say Party! We Say Die! perform an intense live set, as their visa problems (the immigration kind, not the credit kind) have kept them out of the States for the better part of their existence.
Some superlatives from the second night:
Most active use of a harmonica – Final Flash
Most non-rock band-like instruments on stage at any given time – The Luyas
Most light bulbs on stage – Miracle Fortress
Most drums on stage – The Rural Alberta Advantage
Best use of a winged leotard – You Say Party! We Say Die!
Most pieces of brass on stage (unpictured, natch) – Think About Life
