A slow burn can turn into a high intensity boil if you watch it for long enough. That’s what happened at this party, with the early DJ set had by Holy Ghost! duo Nicholas Millhiser and Alex Frankel strategically going for nu-disco and casual house endurance rather than pre-midnight load-blowing, in order to make the evening last longer. One comment overheard was, “this is like a rollerdisco, without the rollerskates”; a judgment also supported by the massive shiny disco ball spitting out snowflakes of light in the center of the room.  Shit Robot aka Marcus Lambkin took the (literally) harder road, whilst Yacht received the distinct delight of those in the snakepit by thrashing it out live, supported by booty-sized bass and fitting visuals.  James Murphy is always a pleasure (to paraphrase one CMJ editor who will remain nameless: “James Murphy is awesome. Why? Because he was. Wearing. Sandals.”) and his Special Disco Version along with Pat Mahoney was, as to be expected, way more fun than wearing socks with aforementioned footwear. Also deserving of the thumbs up was the resourcefulness of the guys who were screenprinting tees etc on the premises. A nice touch.
