Girl Talk | Lit Lounge | July 7, 2006

“Don’t look at me,” Gregg Gillis (the one man phenomenon also known as Girl Talk) announced, “You’re supposed to be looking at the person next to you trying to make a ’special connection.’” It was hard to divert one’s eyes from the man standing on a couch in front of a packed crowd a little after 2am in one of Manhattan’s dankest rock clubs. As he turned his back to the crowd, looped samples from every pop artist ranging from the 60’s to today sprung from the sound system. As the night progressed, Girl Talk proceeded to take off his suit and finally flung himself into the crowd while a loop of Nirvana played. When he returned to his make-shift stage, he announced that the disco ball was missing and he was unable to proceed without it. The disco ball remained missing, unfortunately, and the set was cut short.
