Mel B’s first-ever workout video? You could have fooled me. This former Spice Girl drills like a pro in her new workout video Totally Fit. Before you begin, grab a yoga mat, a couple of water bottles (two to use as weights, then a few to drink), and a stool. Doing the workout in a room with a large mirror to check your form in is strongly suggested.
The DVD begins with a five minute warm up, where Mel B is high energy and bubbly right off the bat. Viewers get introduced to her “posse,” and are invited to get “To’ally fit!”
The warm up is five minutes long, followed by an excruciating 15 minute cardio session, with an optional 20 minute advanced cardio session that employs water bottles as weights at one point.
The DVD also contains four sections targeted at toning specific parts of the body: the arms, legs, bums, and tums that go for ten minutes each. Water bottles or cans of soup are suggested weights to use for the “arms” and “tums” workout, while a stool is needed for the “legs” section. At the conclusion of the four exercise sets is a five minute cool down session that consists of stretching.
Throughout the DVD Mel B’s thick Leeds accent and off the wall quips keeps the audience smiling, even when they probably don’t feel like it. Her form is impeccable, and she goes full throttle throughout the DVD to the point where even her posse can’t keep up (make sure to look for where they don’t even try to hide their grimaces of pain anymore). She jokes about feeling the burn herself, and it makes the workout feel like a work out with a friend. The constant upbeat vibe is never cheesy, and serves as a great motivation. Plus, Mel B’s rock hard body glistening with sweat serves as either great eye candy or a model to strive for, depending on how you look at it.
Sorry Spice Girls fans, there is no Spice Girls soundtrack to this workout.
The final part of this DVD is the “Nutrition” section containing Mel B’s snack and meal recommendations. The recipes are incredibly tasty, easy to make, and nutritious. With Mel B’s direction, a healthy, hearty, and delicious meal can be made in less than 20 minutes.
