Cipes And The People are in New York City for a few gigs (tonight at Sullivan Hall and Saturday at Crash Mansion), and stopped by the CMJ office today for a special performance. Though the band often performs as an impressive eight person ensemble, they were cut back to four in the acoustic setting. The music fit the band’s hippie image with a definite leaning to some jam band and reggae sounds, but still maintained a pop sensibility. Frontman Greg Cipes, who also is responsible for voicing Beast Boy on the cartoon Teen Titans, was able to connect one-on-one with those in attendance, pontificating on love and giving a shout-out to Rev. Moose mid-song.
