Bouncing Souls, Lifetime | Webster Hall | October 16, 2007

Though both New Jersey bands had to deal with sub-par sound, it didn’t stop an anxious crowd from greeting the bands to open-arms and sing-alongs. It seemed like yesterday that Lifetime reunited, but the influential melodic hardcore band pounded the walls with plenty of fan favorites and a few surprises, too. The cavernous Webster Hall was a strange setting to see band that was obviously more at home in a living room.

The Bouncing Souls stormed through a spirited set that touched on parts throughout most of their career. They kept it simple, opting for the crowd favorites and plenty of smiles in lieu of a muddy guitar sound that left the leads lost in the mix. It was unfortunate because a few songs weren’t recognizable until after the rest of the band came in.

On a personal note, I was running (literally) to CMJ Headquarters today and passed in front of Webster. Pete and Bryan from the Bouncing Souls were standing out front smoking/hanging out. As I ran bye I said, “Hey Pete! Hey Bryan!” I gave a little wave and kept running. Needless to say, they were confused by a guy sprinting down the street saying hi to them.
