Shooting Spires | Pete’s Candy Store | September 6, 2007

Shooting Spires (aka BJ Warshaw, one of those knob twiddlers from Parts & Labor) furthered his experiments with his solo project last night in Brooklyn at Pete’s Candy Store. With recent departure of Parts & Labor drummer (and former CMJ-er) Christopher Weingarten, it seems Warshaw has had a bit more time to focus on creating material on his own. Some aspects of the performance mirrored Warshaw’s other group including overly reverbed, indiscernible vocals as well as his usual array of pedals, keyboards, and wires everywhere. However, as he took a seated position in front of his array of electronics, Shooting Spires already suggested this was going to be something a little more introspective. Not a single string appeared to be present on stage as soft distorted noises replaced drums. Shooting Spires may not be a total departure from Parts & Labor, but it certainly is different.
