Sebadoh | Europa | September 2, 2007

It’s almost ten years ago to the day when I met Lou Barlow, one of the geniuses behind Sebadoh. He was playing a show with his side project, Folk Implosion, and it was the first time I had ever met a “rock star,” though meeting him was underwhelming. Barlow was emo before the word found its way into the contemporary lexicon of indie rock. My praises of his music were met with nothing but negativity and criticism of his own work.

A decade later, Barlow is back to playing with his old bands (2007 marked tours from not only Sebadoh but also Barlow’s original band, Dinosaur Jr.), and he doesn’t seem quite so mopey. Though the years may be starting to show, it was hard for me to pass up the opportunity to catch a band I enjoyed from my youth. It wasn’t exactly the most amazing show, but it certainly pleased the inner teenager inside me.
