The Young Knives | Luna Lounge | Mar. 20, 2007

tyk

Two things you’ll notice immediately about The Young Knives are that they are instantly engaging and Thomas Dartnell (aka The House of Lords) plays a massive white bass. After having trouble with US customs a couple weeks prior, The Young Knives played this rescheduled show before a relatively small but appreciative crowd on Tuesday night. They opened with “Part Time” which introduced a perfectly paced set list with songs mostly off their August UK release of Voices of Animals & Men on Transgressive Records. Henry Dartnell (vocals/guitar) and Thomas Dartnell (vocals/bass) have an almost equal share of the singing duties which blended well together in and out of effortless harmonies. The band’s on stage chemistry was complemented by the two Dartnell’s taking the piss out of one another in between songs, much to the enjoyment of the audience. The two clear highlights of the show were intense yet fun versions of “The Decision” and “She’s Attracted To.”

The Young Knives have two more NYC dates at the Mercury Lounge and the Annex before they head back across the pond for some UK dates. These intimate settings are only going to enhance an already entertaining band who are well worth the price of admission.
