Vancouver’s You Say Party (formerly You Say Party! We Say Die!) has called it quits with an official announcement by bassist Stephen O’Shea on the band’s website thanking fans for their support. This comes after a difficult year for the four remaining band members after the sudden death of drummer Devon Clifford at a homecoming show last year.

O’Shea’s post says that the he and the band are “gonna stop for a while, and we’re gonna work on who we are as people. We know that everyone understands exactly why and where we’re coming from. Thanks for the support over the years.” He also gives a special thanks “to Robert and Al for their commitment over the last year and to the team members we worked with over the last 7 years.”

The group’s third album, XXXX, was released to critical acclaim in 2009 and was followed up with REMIXXXX, the group’s first album with new drummer Al Boyle and keyboardist/guitarist Robert Andow.

In remembrance of Clifford, a foundation was set up in the drummer’s name to support music education and programs for children and young adults that otherwise would not be able to afford it. The group’s also shot a video for “Laura Palmer’s Prom” in Abbotsford in the summer of 2010, which pays tribute to Clifford and is included at the bottom of the band’s farewell post.
