Chicago anti-folk eccentric Willis Earl Beal just doesn’t stop creating. His debut collection, Acousmatic Sorcery, was released back in March, and the bluesy singer-songwriter shows no signs of slowing down. Not only will he head off an extensive North American tour, but he’ll also be releasing an animated film on his website based on Principles Of A Protagonist, a somewhat-biographical novella Beal wrote back in 2010.
According to a press release, the film will be available in September following the launch of a newly redesigned Beal website that will also feature an interactive archive of live recordings. According to the cryptic poster released, the film was “Written And Directed By Nobody” and is “Coming Nowhere Soon.”
As a novella, Principles dealt with themes of loneliness and self-doubt, so don’t expect Hanna Barbera. The novella was originally sold by Beal as a zine for $5 in Chicago, but it was eventually included as a supplement to the release of Acousmatic Sorcery.
The animated film will apparently resemble the charming sketchpad aesthetic of Beal’s video for “Evening’s Kiss,” which you can view below.
