mirel wagner

Twenty-six-year-old doom-folk singer and Sub Pop recording artist Mirel Wagner has just released her astounding full-length, When The Cellar Children See The Light Of Day. Born in Ethiopia and raised in Finland, Wagner’s sound is dark and sparse, evoking traditional murder ballad vibes but injecting that sound with a modern, emaciated pain.

In support of the LP, Wagner has announced an epic string of North American and European tour dates. The North American leg begins on November 20th at Seattle’s Fremont Abbey, and wraps up on December 6th in Boston. This extensive tour announcement comes on the heels of the unveiling of the official music video for The Dirt, an album standout and recent favorite of ours. Directed by Wagner herself, the music video echoes the ghost story aesthetic of her songs, reflecting the deliberate simplicity of her arrangements and the frankness of her vocal delivery. The video also reads as a sequel to the video for Oak Tree, another of the album’s strongest tracks.

Check out the video for The Dirt below, along with Wagner’s fall tour dates:
