Julianna Barwick
While writing and recording this year’s excellent Nepenthe in Iceland last year, Julianna Barwick took to the streets of Reykjavík for a “Takeaway Show” with La Blogothèque. The show was filmed last February on Ash Day, which has costume and candy traditions that mimic those of Halloween in the U.S., and so the clip features Barwick offering sweets to children…but only if they sing for it.
 
It’s totally worth it in the end though, because not only do the kids get candy, but we get an entirely improvised composition of Barwick’s looped, choral vocals mingled with thoughts and half-melodies from young Icelanders in costume. Check it out below.
