Los Angeles-based experimental music producer Flying Lotus is previewing his upcoming album, Until The Quiet Comes, with a gorgeous short film shot on 35mm by Kahlil Joseph. The film is soundtracked by tracks from FlyLo’s new LP, and the selected songs are (in order of appearance) “See Thru To U (Feat. Erykah Badu)”, “Hunger (Feat. Niki Randa)” and “Getting There (Feat. Niki Randa).”

The film is set in the notoriously gritty Nickerson Gardens housing projects in Los Angeles and alternates moodily between morbid scenes of a child getting shot, residents nonchalantly observing the death of their neighbor and kids playing around in a field. In one scene a man wearing a “J Dilla Changed My Life” shirt appears to be shot and killed but revives zombie-like, and as if moving underwater, he dances his way through the projects and floats into the back seat of a car that drives him away—perhaps to the afterlife?
