Brooklyn-based producer St. Lucia has announced plans to release his debut EP on November 14 through HeavyRoc, after recently releasing a video for his latest single, “All Eyes On You.” The clip begins with a small fire in a snowy setting, switching to a set of candles floating in the air, and amping up to several volcanic explosions. A mysterious couple is featured floating around as well, only to change to the man walking alone in a barren, smoky wasteland. Though the narrative may not be clear cut, St. Lucia has a way of juxtaposing all of these abstract images with his music to produce a response that is both melancholy and upbeat at the same time.
Originally from South Africa, St. Lucia’s music draws on inspiration from family photos and memories of his younger years, plus his time in the U.K. and eventually his current home in Brooklyn. What do all of these inspirations sound like combined together to form his music? His bio references acts like Aussies Temper Trap and Empire Of The Sun, and though fans of those two will most likely enjoy St. Lucia, there’s something more to it than that. St. Lucia manages to bring together well-crafted atmospheric soundscapes and the endearingly gentle nature of his vocals to create songs that are danceable pop with catchy choruses, but without overtaking the emotions that come along with them. As the name suggests, the music is sort of like a romantic get away to a far off place.
