Holy Tongues

Holy Tongues

When (in the northeast at least) even this late July hasn’t yet become the energy-sapping humidity demon, it’s easy to settle into the lovely, lazy, la-di-da lollygaging of summertime, and that includes tunes intake too. I mean everyone likes a nice sunny singalong, and there’ve been a bunch of them so far this summer. So right when we need it, because there’s more than enough hell-hot to come, Holy Tongues offers us the premiere of the sweeping, slamming, Small Fires. The post-core structure gets electrocuted with a stinging, loose riff, shifty but sure drums and gang vocals that shout through the song like lost, angry souls looking for a way out of a crumbling maze.

This Baltimore trio has risen from the ruins of Ruiner, who had a few well-received hardcore slabs in the mid-00s. Small Fires comes from Holy Tongues’ debut album, Weak People, out August 5 on Melotov Records. Check out the song and the album tracklist below.
