Thurston Moore, that gangly ex-face-of-Sonic Youth, has announced his first solo album in four years (the last was 2011’s Demolished Thoughts) and his first release since Sonic Youth’s less-than-amicable demise. It’s called The Best Day (so perhaps some of those bad feelings have subsided), and it will feature Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelly, My Bloody Valentine bassist Deb Googe, and Nought guitarist James Sedwards.

With this phoenix-from-the-ashes news comes the album’s title track, a crisp bit of all-grown-up roots rock featuring that classically dry Moore drawl peppered with a winking confidence and a searingly psychedelic guitar romp. Listen to the track and check out the tracklist for The Best Day below.
