Brooklyn producer Taylor McFerrin is set to release his single, “Place In My Heart,” which features Philly-based singer/producer Ryat, on March 1. He has a forthcoming LP, Early Riser, to be released on Flying Lotus’s Brainfeeder label. McFerrin, the son of skidoo-bop-pop singer Bobby McFerrin, is out to make a name for himself, and succeeds with “Place In My Heart.”

“Place In My Heart” is moody and mellow, with the shaking vocals of Philadelphia singer Ryat filling the bulk of the track. About halfway through, the chorus comes through, and it’s honestly quite catchy—it will probably stay stuck in your ears for the rest of the day. The rest of the song is filled with McFerrin’s soft keyboard washes, synth lines and stomping beat. It’s a relatively simple song, but there’s an oblique depth to it that is hard to come by.

The video below to McFerrin’s song was directed by Simon Benjamin, and features his brother Jevon and actress Stephane LaTour falling in love and having an amazing time together, at least until she kills herself in a bathtub (wait, what?). Heavy stuff.
