julia-holter-don't-make-me-over
Fluttering singer/composer Julia Holter released her excellent third LP, Loud City Song, last summer, and since then she’s been relatively quiet. Now, almost a year later, she’s prepping the release of a new 7-inch, featuring two covers. If you’re worried the covers will be mere repeats of the originals, don’t.

Don’t Make Me Over takes on Dionne Warwick’s 1962 song, moving it from an expansive, romantic boast to a wispy, delicate ballad. Hello Stranger is a cover of Barbara Lewis’s 1963 single, and while it appeared on Loud City Song, the soft, white-washed vocals and cryptically flatlining instrumentation is a nice reminder of what Holter can do with a sweet pop track. The 7-inch drops in August on Domino. Listen to the whole thing below, and check her mostly Euro tour dates.
