Fade To Mind just released Fatima Al Qadiri’s first full EP, Desert Strike, and it’s available to stream online now. The eerie beats sprinkled with gun shot and reload samples are startling and harrowing, but they’re also an ode to the Brooklyn-based artist’s youth. Al Qadiri was born in Senegal and raised in Kuwait, where she spent the majority of her time playing the video game Desert Strike: Return Of The Gulf with her sister to stay safe from the harsh reality that was going on in the streets. Fatima Al Qadiri – Desert Strike EP [FADE005] by FadetoMind

The five track EP is reminiscent of a video game score—just pop in your headphones, close your eyes, and picture yourself wandering through the foggy, dream-like world of Myst. Desert Strike is kicked off by bass-heavy track “Ghost Raid,” and continues through a mind-bending trip with the ethereal “Oil Well” and “War Games.” The EP ends on a lighter note with “Hydra,” which features samples of steel drums, giving it a Caribbean undertone.
