Baltimore’s Dope Body releases its sophomore LP and Drag City debut, Natural History, May 22, but right now you can listen to the whole album over at Spin.
The band balances its guttural, ’90s-era sludge with some dry as dirt drumming. There aren’t any traces of sunny synth blips here, which we’ve come to expect from Baltimore bands in the last few years. The ratatat percussion is about the only thing that ties the group to those Wham City artists, which makes sense since there’s been some crossover membership happening with Dope Body and the Dan Deacon Ensemble. If you liked “Lazy Slave,” the full stream won’t disappoint.
