The Polaris Music Prize, the most coveted music award in Canada, announced its final 10 nominees today in Toronto. Originally selecting 40 potential winners, the list has been cut down to the 10 heavy-hitting hopefuls in the running to win the title of Canadian full-length album of the year, as well as $30,000. A panel of 11 will select a winner at a gala in late September where each band that makes the short list will take the stage.
Check out videos from a couple of the top 10, as well as a full list of those who made the cut, below.
On an entirely different end of the spectrum, Polaris Music Prize nominee veteran Cadence Weapon’s Hope In Dirt City received a nomination. Watch the video for “Conditioning,” the album’s clap-filled single.
The now-defunct indie-rock duo Handsome Furs were nominated for their final album, Sound Kapital. Here they are with their whimsical single “Serve The People.”
