Indie-rock pioneers Sebadoh have just announced their first LP in 14 years. The full-length album titled Defend Yourself is due out on September 17 via Joyful Noise. Karl Hofstetter, the owner of Joyful Noise, has worked with Sebadoh’s Lou Barlow in the past—he released a song called “Welcome Home” last year—and the pair are joining forces again.
Defend Yourself not only marks the return of Lou Barlow, Jason Loewenstein, and Bob D’Amico, but also a return to the self-recorded DIY ethos that graced the early works of Sebadoh albums, namely Sebadoh III and Bakesale. But the excitement doesn’t end there. Sebadoh also released a five-track precursor EP, aptly named Secret EP, that the band quietly uploaded to their Bandcamp one song at a time over the course of a year, bypassing all typical methods of promotion until now.
The Secret EP will be given a proper release as a 10″ on black vinyl as well as a 300-pressing, hand-numbered edition in green marble vinyl on June 25. Stream Sebadoh’s Secret EP and watch the official video trailer for the EP, below.
