Electric bluegrass sensation Seasick Steve has signed with Third Man Records for a North American one-album record deal, releasing a two-song single for the label’s Blue Series in the coming months. Already a popular act in the U.K., Steve will prep for the release with a string of U.S. shows, one being at the Belmont Lounge in Austin tonight.
With all the label’s albums being produced by Jack White, founder of Third Man and impromptu street performer at this year’s SXSW, Steve’s raw vocals and bayou blues guitar will be a perfect fit at the label whose roster boasts the Raconteurs, Wanda Jackson and White himself among others. Steve’s previous releases, including I Started Out With Nothing And I Still Got Most Of It Left and Man From Another Time, have charted in the U.K. and showcased his diverse arsenal of instruments, from a custom-tuned three-string guitar to a one-string Diddley bow.
Steve has headlined a number of shows in the U.K. at venues like the Royal Albert Hall, the Manchester Apollo and the Grand Opera House in Belfast, also making appearances at the Reading, Leeds and Glastonbury festivals. His current tour dates run along the west coast then head back over the pond in the summer for four U.K. festivals.
Steve’s fourth album, his first with Third Man, will be released this May.
