Call it the longest pre-meditation period for any debut album, ever. After 27 years of travel in Europe, Asia and North America and stints playing for German circuses and Off-Broadway tap shows, Mauro Remiddi—better known as Porcelain Raft—is preparing to release his debut album, Strange Weekend, out January 24 on Secretly Canadian.
The 10-track LP, cut in an intimate Brooklyn basement, showcases Remiddi’s floaty, ethereal falsetto, cushioned by lush acoustic instrumentation and bubbling synths. New track “Put Me To Sleep” is a perfect fall chill-out tune: all snappy snares, echoing strings and that terrific, honey-dipped falsetto. The song is currently being offered as a free download on Porcelain Raft’s Facebook page in anticipation of Strange Weekend‘s release.
Fans of hook-laden downtempo will definitely want to keep an eye on Remiddi and his globally minded strain of synth-pop, honed after years on the road—with more to come: Remiddi will be setting out with M83 in Europe this winter. Tour dates are listed below, as is the stream of “Put Me To Sleep.”
