Noah Lennox, aka the indie-pop god Panda Bear, is releasing the final of his singles via electronic label Kompakt on March 14. The song, “Surfer’s Hymn,” will be released as a limited 7” in anticipation of the April release of his fourth solo LP, Tomboy. The b-side contains a remix of the track by UK electronic producer Actress.
Tomboy is a departure for Panda Bear, but not to an extent that will alienate fans—there’s enough swirly goodness to go around. “Surfer’s Hymn” is the fourth track on the album, and is less sample-heavy than his acclaimed 2007 effort Person Pitch, instead preferring to focus on the interplay between whooshy synths, whooshy guitars, and Lennox’s voice (also whooshy). Tomboy comes out on April 12 via Animal Collective’s label, Paw Tracks.
Animal Collective is going on tour for a short jaunt before the sold-out Coachella festival. If you live on the west coast, you’re in luck.
