The dudes from Wavves are wrapping up another killer summer. Last year’s King Of The Beach made landfall like a hurricane, the eye of which is still revolving around many a turntable. Now with pop cred in the bank and their noise-band days in balance with their rockability, the boys are preparing the release of a new EP on Ghost Ramp and have a track to share with you. For its latest song, “Nodding Off,” Wavves got a little help from Best Coast. Bethany Cosentino’s backing vocals add an extra octave to the chorus and make it a hook hard to slip.

Wavves’ new EP, Life Sux, drops September 20, and the band first gave a taste of the new material with the premiere of “I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl.” The song sounds familiar with its thundering drums, Nathan Williams’ languid lyrics and a guitar riff reminiscent of the Strokes’ “12:51.” The West Coast loserdom remains intact with Williams again making good use of the twenty-something guy with girl problems daydreaming of meeting and becoming the Foo Fighters frontman. “Nodding Off” brings back that self-loathing, social-failure vibe that made King Of The Beach‘s core, with Williams singing, “Don’t call me friend, I’m not your friend.” Oh, the hostility.

Catch the guys on tour on the dates posted below, and check out the Ghost Ramp pre-order deal here. The first 420 (Ayoooo) people to pre-order one of the three digital download packages will get a copy of the vinyl version of the EP in green. Please don’t try to smoke it.
