Chicago’s math-heavy, complex indie rock band, Joan Of Arc, will be doing big things in the coming month with both the release of the group’s fourteenth album and a giant North American tour. The upcoming album is Life Like and it will be out May 10 from Polyvinyl. Recorded in less than five days with engineering help from legendary producer/hardass Steve Albini, it will be an enormous departure from the band’s last few releases. The group is still dabbling in unorthodox rhythms and complex guitar, bass and drum interplay, however, this time there will be no multitude of layers of additional instruments and electronic soundscapes.

The group, which has been known to make frequent line-up changes, wrote the upcoming album as a three piece, later adding guitarist Victor Villarreal before setting out on a European tour last year. The twenty shows played in twenty days on that tour allowed for Victor become well acquainted with the new songs, explaining the wildly short time spent in the studio recording.

The band has made the album’s first single, “Love Life,” available as a stream as well as a free download through the Polyvinyl website.
