Sigur Rós isn’t the only band making a comeback these days; those fiends in the Misfits have relapsed into songwriting once again, after almost 10 years off. Coming October 4, the Misfits will release its first full-length album since 2003′s collection of classic rock covers, Project 1950. The upcoming album, The Devil’s Rain, was produced by punk scene impresario Ed Stasium, who in the past has worked with the Ramones and with the Misfits on Famous Monsters in 1999. The band also enlisted comic book artist, writer and musician Arthur Suydam to give the Misfits’ “Fiend Skull” logo a facelift for the album cover art, which the band promises will be positively to die for.

Although none of the band’s original lineup remains on the roster, bassist Jerry Only is on deck—and since he joined only a month after the Misfits started practicing punk tunes in its native New Jersey, he’s not a founding member by definition and technicality only. In its current incarnation, the Misfits are Only along with ex-Black Flag member Dez Cadena and drummer Eric Arce. For those worried about the current state of the band, fear not: The Misfits is reporting record highs on the charts, which actually might be a bad sign for certain diehards who want to preserve the Misfits’ cult-like appeal.

Next month, Only and his compatriots will hit the road for a two-month cross-country U.S. tour. So fiends, get ready to get your fix.
