Back for its 14th year, the Mid-Atlantic College Radio Conference (MACRoCk) has announced its full lineup. Downtown Harrisonburg, VA, will be inundated with more than 90 independent musicians on April 1 and 2, along with panels discussing everything from booking bands to screen printing.
MACRoCk started in 1997 as a student-run festival put on by James Madison University’s WXJM radio station. An all-volunteer staff ran the festivities that took place in Harrisonburg’s independent music venues using grassroots organization to promote the independent artists who contribute to music, art, business and culture, while purposely avoiding corporate sponsorship and big businesses. Following the success of the first MACRoCk, the event is now held annually by the MACRoCk committee and WXJM’s student volunteers to create a network of college radio stations and independent artists and labels that all work together to support each other.
The number of participants has greatly increased while still keeping the focus on independent artists as set in place by the first MACRoCk, with attendees traveling from all over the country to experience the event. This year’s lineup includes sets by Bouncing Souls, Capsule, Screaming Females, Antlers, Cannabis Corpse, Inter Arma, Algernon Cadwallader, Invisible Hand, Brooke Waggoner and Red Clay River among many others. Panels and labels have yet to be announced.
