It’s hard to sound angry and inviting at the same time, but somehow Edinburgh’s Young Fathers pull it off with ease. The Scottish psychedelic hip-hop trio— consisting of vocalists Alloysious, Kayus and G— recently signed to Anticon and the label will release the eight song album/mixtape Tape One in November, but you can download the single “Deadline,” below.

Young Fathers – “Deadline” by anticon

“Deadline” features a scrappy, rattling beat that wouldn’t sound out of place in the dingy confines of a Death Grips record, but the song’s giant, catchy melody and the distant call of a siren in the background resemble the bracing, inventive noise-pop of early TV On The Radio. It’s got that perfect combination of righteous indignation and communal energy that will make for excellent shout-along fodder when the band goes on tour, which, coincidentally enough, they’re doing in the U.K. this October with fellow rap iconoclasts WHY?. You can find those dates below, along with the bleary, disorienting video for “Deadline.”
